The Frog Brothers, Edgar and Alan, are professional experts who dedicate their lives to hunting vampires.

Biography[]

Edgar Frog[]

Edgar and Alan worked in their parents' comic book store at a very early age, not for money, but for survival guides and tactics. They somehow surmised, and were correct, that their hometown Santa Carla was fraught with vampires, so they read a comic called Vampires Everywhere! to learn how to destroy blood-suckers.

When they were both around twelve or thirteen, the Emerson family moved to their town, and they warned the younger brother Sam about Santa Carla's vampires. This paid off later when Sam's older brother Michael became a half-vampire; Sam asked for help, and the Frogs obliged. The two pairs of brothers set out to destroy a small clan of vampires to turn Michael and his girlfriend Star back into humans. In the vampires' lair, the clan was asleep, suspended from the ceiling when the Frogs and Sam arrived. Edgar managed to kill one by staking it through the heart, but this awakened the other three killers. The Frogs and Sam fled back to the latter's house with Michael and Star. The vampires attempted to kill all of them in the house, but were unsuccessful and killed in gruesome ways. Edgar and Alan managed to kill one of them by making him fall into a bathtub full of holy water, while Sam managed to kill another, and Michael impaled the vampire leader David on a pair of mounted antelope horns.

Two decades later, Edgar had moved to Luna Bay and lived alone in a trailer, which he had covered with crosses and garlic to keep vampires away. He also had a job as a surfboard shaper to pay the bills. He lived in apparent solitude until Chris and Nicole moved to Luna Bay as well; the former left his address on Edgar's door, hoping to get a job. Later that night, after the siblings went to a party at a luxurious mansion belonging to Shane Powers (who was secretly a head vampire and was shown to be infatuated with Nicole); Nicole unwittingly drank Shane's blood, turning her into a half-vampire, Edgar knocked her out with a surfboard and attempted to kill her, but Chris obviously called that off.

Chris was initially skeptical of Edgar's theory that Nicole and Shane were vampires, but came around eventually after he was forced to impale one vampire, Lisa, on a pair of deer antlers; he then realized that Edgar was right all along. The two were unable to pinpoint a location on Shane's nest to kill him, so Edgar suggested that Chris got close to Shane and earned his trust. This led to Chris becoming a half-vampire himself, but nonetheless he discovered the location of Shane's lair, a series of old mine tunnels. Edgar killed Shane's clan, while Chris himself killed Shane by slicing off his head with a sword after Nicole shoved a stake into his chest (as she had agreed with Chris's words to Edgar that she was family, and showed it when she told Shane the same thing in regards to Chris).

It was revealed that three years previously, while saving a congressman from a vampire attack in Washington, D.C., Alan got turned into a half-vampire. By only feeding on animal blood, Alan was able to remain that way, but had become disillusioned with the idea of finding a head vampire. In addition, shortly after helping Chris kill the vampires and save his sister Nicole at Luna Bay, Edgar was forced to stake Sam Emerson who had become a vampire, something that was shown to greatly haunt Edgar and had destroyed his relationship with the entire Emerson family.

Two years later, Edgar was struggling financially, and was approached by vampire novelist Gwen Lieber to save her brother Peter from the vampires who have kidnapped him, which he initially refused to do. The vampire DJ X intended to spread vampire blood through his raves in order to create a vampire army and Edgar approached Alan for help, but Alan refused, having lost all hope that he could be saved and thought that the Alpha Vampire was just a "never-ending pyramid scheme". After visiting Sam's grave and returning the rare comic that Sam had bragged about having during their first meeting, Edgar agreed to join the fight alongside Gwen, former reality TV star Lars von Goetz, Lars's cameraman Claus and Zoe, Edgar's love interest. Edgar armed himself with the help of Congressman Blake, who had become his weapons supplier ever since Edgar and Alan had saved his life years prior. However, their first attack went wrong, leading to the death of Lars and Edgar getting injured.

On the night of the rave, Edgar and his surviving team assaulted DJ X's hideout where he had already distributed vampire blood to the crowd. Edgar managed to kill DJ X's girlfriend Lily, but he proved to be no match for the experienced vampire. Edgar was nearly killed before Alan unexpectedly showed up to help, allowing Edgar to incapacitate DJ X with a resin grenade stolen from Area 51 by Congressman Blake. Together, the Frog Brothers killed DJ X, but the partygoers failed to turn back into humans and neither did Alan.

To everyone's surprise, Gwen's "brother" Peter was revealed to be the true Alpha Vampire, whose power DJ X was trying to steal using a Blood Moon ritual. After killing Gwen Lieber, Peter attempted to get Edgar to work for him as an assassin, targeting vampires that got out of line, but Edgar refused and Peter used his power over Alan to make him attack Edgar. Edgar managed to spray Peter with water, which he then blessed into holy water, killing him instantly. Killing Peter turned all the people, including Alan, back into humans.

Later, Edgar and Zoe reflected upon their adventure and Edgar wondered how Zoe knew that vampires were real, unaware that she was actually a werewolf.

Alan Frog[]

Alan Frog grew up alongside his brother Edgar Frog in the coastal community of Santa Carla, California. At an early age, Alan committed himself to fighting bloodsuckers after his exposure to horror comics due to his parents owning a comic book store on the boardwalk of his town. Around his teenage years, Alan was given a job at his family's comic book store as a shop assistant, but he considered this a mere cover-up to his vampire-exterminating business he had set up with his brother.

Alan's fate as a vampire hunter was sealed when Sam Emerson first entered his family's comic book shop in the summer of 1987. Both he and his brother took an immediate dislike to Sam, which was not helped when Sam proved to have a superior knowledge of comic books than they did. Alan immediately tried to prove his knowledge of the comic book world, but was quickly disarmed by Sam. Snarling, Alan kept silent while his brother, Edgar, warned Sam of the vampires they believed to be infesting their hometown and attempted to give him a copy of Vampires Everywhere!. Sam declined, however, and before Edgar could convince him any further, a comic book was stolen by a group of Surf Nazis, which ensued in a chase, leaving Sam alone in the comic store.

The next day, Sam entered their comic shop once again, which gave the Frog Brothers another chance to confront him. Upon asking him whether he had noticed anything "unusual" about Santa Carla yet, Sam replied, "No, it's a pretty cool place. If you're a Martian." Edgar quickly corrected him by saying, "Or a vampire." After Sam quickly voiced his disbelief, the brothers announced that they were, in fact, vampire hunters. Edgar gave Sam a copy of Destroy All Vampires, which had the brothers' phone number on the back in case he ever needed them.

The Frog Brothers didn't hear from Sam again until the next night where they got a call announcing that Sam's brother, Michael, had become a vampire. Alan immediately suggested he stab Michael through the heart with a stake, but Sam chose to ignore it. Upon having their advice refused they hung up on Sam. The next day, however, Sam met up with them once again, but this time with the knowledge that Michael is only a half-vampire, and, therefore, still partly mortal. The three new-found friends decided that if they were to save Michael, they would have to kill the head vampire. The trouble was, they had no idea who that could be. After Sam's suspicions that Max, his mother's boyfriend, could be the head vampire, the Frog Brothers were asked by Sam to attend his mother's dinner party that evening to which Max would be present. After putting Max under a series of tests, it had become apparent that Max was not even a vampire, let alone the head.

The next time Sam had called, Michael had decided to take Sam and the Frog Brothers to the vampires' lair. Alan along with Sam, Edgar and Michael "borrowed" Michael and Sam's grandfather's car and headed towards the lair. Once there, Edgar and Alan attempted to stake a fellow half-vampire Star, but were quickly stopped by Michael. Unfazed, the brothers continued to search for the full vampires while Michael removed the half-vampires Star and Laddie. After a while of searching, they stumbled across a hidden cave which turned out to be "one giant coffin". Not knowing who could possibly be the head vampire, Edgar decided that they'll have to kill them all, starting with Marko. Alan gave Edgar a lift while amusing himself with some vampire humor much to the dismay of Sam ("First come, first staked"). But when Edgar staked Marko, the vampire let out an agonizing and ear-piercing scream, which awoke all the other bloodsuckers. As Alan, Sam and Edgar attempted to scramble out of the hidden cave, another vampire, David, grabbed Sam and attempted to pull him inside the cave. Using their knowledge of vampires, Edgar and Alan pulled David into the sunlight, causing him to back away due to the pain and engage in the shedding of a single tear for his fallen brother, Marko.

After this, the Frogs and the Emersons prepared for battle, knowing they only have a few hours of daylight left before the vampires come for them. Filling the Emersons' bathtub with garlic and holy water and arming themselves with stakes, a bow and some arrows, the teenagers waited for nightfall. When night came, Edgar and Alan rushed upstairs with two other half-vampires, Star and Laddie. After shutting the door, and being completely out of earshot of Michael, the brothers decided they should just kill the half-vampires as well. Star and Laddie rushed away and the brothers attempted to chase them, but they were stopped in their tracks by a vampire called Paul. Seemingly outraged by the death of his brother Marko, Paul came at Edgar and Alan furiously. Little did he know that the Frog Brothers had loaded their water pistols with holy water and one squirt appeared to cause him a tremendous amount of pain. More angry than he was before, Paul once again went for the Frogs, but they were saved by Sam's dog, Nanook, who pushed him into the bathtub full of garlic and holy water, making him explode through the plumbing, filling the whole house full of blood.

Shortly after, the two met up with Sam, who had taken down a vampire called Dwayne downstairs with a bow and arrow. Agreeing they were "awesome monster bashers!", they were all taken by surprise by Laddie, who had apparently been taking shelter underneath the bed. The thirst appeared to have gotten to Laddie, as he went for the three boys, but was stopped by Star, who held him back. Later on in the evening, Max appeared and revealed that he was, in fact, the head vampire. Attempting to save the Emersons, the Frog Brothers attacked Max head on, but were thrown off with ease. Just as it seemed there was no hope left, the Emersons' grandfather appeared, staking Max through the heart with a spear that was thrown off of the front of his truck that he crashed through the living room wall, subsequently turning all half-vampires back to normal. Alan then discussed with his brother how much they should charge them for their services.

Eighteen years later, Alan was forced to drink vampire blood by another vampire (when he and Edgar where on another vampire hunt in Washington, D.C.), which turned him into a half-vampire. After that, Alan himself fed on animal blood and had not seen his brother Edgar in five years, until Edgar was hired by Gwen Lieber to rescue her brother Peter from the head vampire DJ X. When Edgar asked Alan to join him in killing DJ X and rescuing Peter, Alan refused, having lost all hope to be turned back into a human again. Later, after Edgar visited Sam Emerson's grave, Alan left him a book about the first vampire hunt and the Blood Moon.

Later, on San Cazador Island, Alan showed up when DJ X was about to kill Edgar, but instead, the Frog Brothers end up killing DJ X. Sadly, however, Alan didn't return to normal as they hoped. It was then revealed that Peter, not DJ X, was the real head vampire, and that Gwen Lieber was conspiring with him all along. Shortly after killing Gwen, Peter made Edgar an offer to work for him as his very own personal vampire hunter, which Edgar refused. Then Peter turned Alan against his brother and made then fight each other. At the very last minute, Edgar threw water on Peter, which Edgar turned into holy water. When Peter died, Alan transformed back into a human. After that, Alan enjoyed his first suntan in years.
